I've attended UU before and they are very cool and accepting of everyone whoever and whatever they may be. Very cool!

How long does the typical church service last?
by B_Deserter insitting anywhere for 2 hours is a recipe for dozing off as far as i'm concerned.
i would think the typical church service wouldn't be the 2-hour ordeal the sunday meeting is, but i don't know for sure.

About one and 1/2 hours. But it is done in so many parts with you standing and sitting and standing again and praying and singing that it really does seem to go much faster than one WT study, which feels like 4 hours. There is a lot more variety packed into 1 1/2 hours of Baptist and even more in Penticostal Assembly of God (tons of music, singing, dancing, and clapping) churches that I can't see anyone going back to the hall after that.

Can you put on the one with the teenagers looking very unhappy and angry: "Do You Appreciate Your Rich Spiritual Heritage?"

Explain it like I'm three...what's the big deal about being an ex-dub?
by wanderlustguy inits just not that big of a deal.
i hear people respond to stories of ex-witnesses and it reminds me how the organization is viewed by those who have not been in it.
since witnesses are not allowed to participate in any public activities that involve association with worldy people (my program just put a red line under worldly, but the way) these people never get to know a jehovahs witness.

Missing friends
by purplesofa inover the years i have made many friends online that are jw's.
when my doubts were such with the organization that i was full on posting here, little by little i withdrew from my jw friends online and in person.
no explanation, i have not responded to emails over time, and just let those friendships die down.. out of respect.......i felt sneaky in my researching the organization and just was not sure where my thoughts and feelings were going to land.. today, i unblocked someone on my messenger to chat with them.

The two close friends I made at the hall are out now. Maybe yours will see the real light and get out, too. You might be able to rejuvinate the friendships with them. Just takes time. Not very many stay in for long anymore. I'm sorry you are hurting.

What Religion Do you Follow Now?
by luna14 ini am new to the site.
i wish i had known about it earlier, it would have avoided a lot of the guilty feelings i felt when i was df in 1998. it's so cool to see so many members.
anyway i wanted to ask what religion do you follow now that you are no longer a jw?

I am religioned out but find that the philosophy of the Wiccan Rede to be all I need. The Wiccans themselves provide socialization and fun in their company and rituals. Just having fun with religion for a change though not following anything but a philosophy. Remember, religion is a snare and a racket. Joking! It can be good for some people but trapping for others.

I am looking into Wicca and paganism in general because it honors what I can clearly see as the source and supporter of all life. That is where I am at this point, anyway.
Welcome!

KM 2005- Society discourages brothers from donating to Tsunami victims $$$$
by Witness 007 insitting in the hall i was shocked when i read this article.
kingdom ministry 2005 nov {after the tsunami and new orleans desaster witnesses sent millions to help brothers in these areas marking their envelopes "for the tsunami victims" etc.
the society realized since there are few witnesses in tsunami ravaged countries this money would be wasted helping muslims.
